Locals

SkillsUSA local (chapter-level) competitions are the foundational training ground where students first showcase their career-specific and leadership abilities. Acting as the initial step in a year-long progression, these school-level events test both trade expertise and employability skills, preparing students to advance to regional, state, and eventually national championships.

These localized events offer multiple benefits for career and technical education (CTE) students:

  • Skill Validation: Students demonstrate mastery in industry-specific trades (such as automotive technology, building trades, and health occupations) as well as leadership events like public speaking or job interviewing.

  • Industry Integration: Local events are typically evaluated by industry volunteers, keeping classroom training highly relevant to employer expectations.

  • Path to the Championships: Winning a gold, silver, or bronze medallion at the local level often qualifies a student to move on to regional or state contests.

  • Community Networking: Students build confidence, connect with local business partners, and explore exciting employment opportunities directly off the competition floor.

Interested students are encouraged to contact their chapter lead advisor to learn more about local competitions.
